Official 2017 NBA Draft Thread - June 22

Fox has it all.... He's a "big" guard and atheletic, he can orchestrate and penetrate, he's developing his shot and plays defense.

I agree that Fultz and Fox are the 2 best.... we lost hope when we slippers from 4-5 to 8....

We can only dream that Smith, Monk and Isaac go top 7.... this means that Tatum, Fox, or Jax slips.

Actually his size could be looked at as a knock. He's slight of build barely above 6'3" in shoes only weighing 170lbs is not what I'd call big. I personally won't hold his size against him though, we know he has elite level talent scoring and making plays for others, his motor appears to be endless

The only guard whose size is really really that big of a deal is Ntilikina since he's 6'5" with a 7-foot wing span (well, and Lonzo and Fultz, but we ain't gettin those guys)

The others are all basically the same height. Monk is 6'3.5" in shoes with a 6'6 wingspan, Fox is 6'3.5" in shoes with a 6'6" wingspan, and Smith is 6'2" with a 6'5" wingspan

I'd say Fox's ability and willingness to create for others is far far more appealing than the inch of height he has on Smith and Monk

Ergo why big was in quotation marks. He probably just makes the cut for Phil, a guy who prefers bigger guards. But, since Fox is a PG, coming in just at 6"3' means he probably just makes the cut.

I'm sure Ntiliki is an even more ideal Pg, based on Phil's size prerequisite.
I wonder if Smith is too small? Would be funny if that 1 inch disqualifies him. I doubt it.... but would they go Frenchie instead?

I'm not sure with Phil, he did have Fisher as a lead guard for yrs and he wasn't tall at all, neither was Farmar, neither was Larkin, neither was Rose, neither was Calderon...all 6'3" or shorter. Phil can be confusing! What I hope he does is at least adapt to the modern day athlete and look at the player's scope of talent in hopes that most of what the player is will fit into the system.

Put #kporzee and this dude on the same team together, they just might deserve each other

This dude is so trade baitable right now

Watch Phil trade 8th pick for DR....

Yeah, Phil is confusing.... like trading for Rose and praising his penetrating ability.... for a man who doesn't appreciate the pick and roll, he seems to appreciating a guard who can penetrate.... Another reason why Fox and Smith are in play.

I got faith in phil.... but then I thought trump would get the latino vote, Obama would win over the Caucasian's... oprah would lose weight, and that bush was not a 'dick'....

Interesting!

So Ben Simmons won't be running the point? Man I was looking forward to that, a guy that big with his passing ability, dishing from all over the floor like Lebron.

I doubt Smith goes that high, maybe he goes to the Kings at 5 but if Fox is there at 5 the Kings select him.

When you have a prospect like Embiid, it'll make a franchise rethink it's whole approach. Not to mention Saric can dish the rock himself. Simmons playmaking ability may be a bit overplayed based on the talent they already have on the roster. Needless to say Sixers have a hole at the guard positions. They're picking a guard without question if they keep the pick, I doubt they take Smith but it may suggest Smith is every bit the talent of other guards. If it's rumorville they could have mentioned another top prospect besides Smith for an initial feeler leak, so something is up here.

Plan B or to insert another option it could signal the Sixers possibly wanting to trade down a few spots

I have no love for the Sixers, but I really hope Embiid can stay healthy. The league will start getting to be more fun for me when Philly is too good to tank to a top 3 pick every year.

If we don't start showing stark improvement ourselves very soon, we're going to become just like them...lottery darlings

People need to remember that Smith was a highly-touted HS player who blew out his knee and missed his senior year.... this was his first year back, so it was expected that it would be an up and down year.

All you need to know about Smith, and compare this to Fultz, but NC St walked into a hostile Cameron Arena and upset Duke -- and Smith was unstoppable scoring 32 points. Show me the game Fultz had that compares to this win?

Tatum, Giles, Frank Jax and Kennard may all be first round picks.... Allen is staying, but he was there, along with defensive stalwart Matt Jones....

Smith beat a very good team.... they had no answer for him in the second half (despite coach K).

Anyway, I seriously doubt Smith lasts to 8.... I doubt Fox does either. Ball, Fultz, Jax, Tatum, Fox, Monk, Smith are probably the first 7 picks.... teams have different needs and preferences, but this is how it probably goes.

This means NYK picks either Ntilikini or Isaac. Now, there's always hope the C from ARI goes top 7, or Isaac.... which means NYK has a shot at Monk or Fox or Smith.... we'll see.

But, like PHI and LA taking Okafor and Russell.... might be a good thing for NYK not to have a choice and settle for whatever G is left at 8.

And that's the bottom line.... there will be a G at 8.... or that means Jax or Tatum is still there.

From what I've been reading surmising approximately 3-4 articles from teams above us in the lottery, I place complete confidence Fox doesn't slip past Sacramento(I think this is the team who wants him most). It won't shock me if he goes to the Lakers. We have zero shot at Fox unless he's tied to a Russian scandal

I'm pretty sure we're already in the lottery for 2018, either that or we're going to win the championship. I've narrowed it down to only those 2 possibilities.

Knicks work out Iowa State guard Burton, Purdue forward Swanigan

(Theknicksblog)

In addition to Iowa State guard Deonte Burton, the Knicks worked out Purdue's Caleb Swanigan, the University of Kentucky's Bam Adebayo and LSU's Antonio Blakeney on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Ian Begley.

Swanigan has yet to hire an agent and is undecided if he will even declare for next month's draft. The Big Ten Player of the Year averaged 18.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game in his sophomore season for Purdue.

Even if the 6-foot-9 forward enters the draft, there is no guarantee he would still be available at No. 44.

Burton, 25, averaged 15.1 points and 6.2 rebounds in his senior season, his second with the Cyclones. Before joining Iowa State for the 2015-16 season, he played two years at Marquette.

A 6-foot-5, 250-pound guard, Burton is projected to be a player similar to the Boston Celtics' Jae Crowder, reports Marc Berman of the New York Post.

Burton is slated to be a late second-round pick, according to Berman.

Adebayo, a 6-foot-10 center, averaged 13 points and eight rebounds for Kentucky last season as a freshman. Blakeney scored 17.2 points per contest on 45.8 perent shooting from the guard position for LSU.

The Knicks have three picks in June's NBA Draft: No. 8 overall, No. 44 and No. 58.

According to Bergman,

"Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek, an Iowa State graduate, also has a soft spot for Cyclones players. The Knicks will host Iowa State senior point guard Monte Morris on June 8. He?s more highly touted than Burton in mock drafts, but also should be available at 44.

Burton, a transfer from Marquette, came on in the season?s second half and averaged 15.1 points and 6.2 rebounds. There have been comparisons with another former Marquette forward, Jae Crowder, as an unorthodox defensive type. Burton is only 6-foot-5, but at 250 pounds he played power forward at Iowa State. He?s projected as a small forward in the NBA.

?He?s a funky player,?? said Hobbs, a former Jazz and Nets scout. ?He?s able to guard bigger guys because of his strength ? such a big-body kid. And they have to guard him and keep him in front of them and he shoots the 3 pretty well. Talking to NBA people, they?re still trying to figure out who he is. He doesn?t fit in a box. Is he a power forward? What is he? He didn?t have a lot of pomp and circumstance until the last part of the year.??
