Official 2017 NBA Draft Thread - June 22

I don't know anything about Ntilikina, but his summary sentence seems to be that he is a pass-first, strong defense PG. Here's an excerpt from the New York Post article:

Tim Shea, the former European scout for the Knicks who was against the 1999 drafting of French bust Frederic Weis, provided a scouting report of Ntilikina this week to The Post.
Shea, now a consultant with Estudiantes of Madrid, wrote: “First thing you see is the long limbs and sleek, proportioned physique. Well coordinated, smooth operator. Good hops; quick hops. Nice stroke and an Isaiah Thomas/Bradley Beal similarity as the arc is high and the release is beautiful to watch. Very quick hands.
“PG at 6’5 and still growing. His value should be seen in the comparative light of his competing on a daily basis against professional men, while NCAA players compete against teenagers and young men. We have a PG that can score and not a scoring PG. If I compare I must say: ‘Walt Frazier-like” as a player with the Thomas/Beal shooting style.'”

Dallas like Frenchie over DSJ bc they tried to jump to 7.

DSJ has health issue (knee) and attitude issue (some scouts soured on him bc of poor body language on the court and how he rolled eyes at coach and treated teammates).

Ntikilina has tremendous potential....

I see why Phil might've made this decision.

I mean, what do I know, right.... we had it olay out our way and we made our pick between the 3 remaining guards.

So...Monk fell to 10, eh? I guess we weren't the only team that wasn't a fan of his game

What we gotta see is whether or not Phil can acquire another 1st round pick. He was able to do it a couple years ago by giving up Tim Hardaway Jr. so we'll see what he does.

I can't hate this pick. I think Phil picked the best between the three guards. I think he too was sick of watching the team get lit up by opposing backcourts and so picked a guard who could play defense and shoot

Frank speaks English really well just like KP which makes it easier to integrate him into the team as a starter in his first year. I think we're going to be talking about his bball IQ and his coachability which is going to really help him adapt to a starting job in the triangle.

Sounds like balony because he would've fell further if his knee was that bad and Carlisle is no nonsense coach when it comes to attitudes and smugness. Looks like we got played

He was drafted because of the triangle, Phil wants someone to mold. I wonder if Phil is thinking beyond his contract even if as a high level consultant

Seriously dude? Dallas hired Ntilikina's Strasbourg coach to coach their summer team. This is some bush league stuff from Dallas. They wanted Ntilikina.

so Dallas was playing the Knicks all along? hiring Frank's french coach was a smoke-screen?

gotta hand it to Mavs/Cuban, if they really wanted Dennis Rose Jr, they did a very good job of it.

I'm happy with the French Freak.

Cuban is a sore loser so who knows really. What were they going to say? Cuban flew to France, right?

Anyway.... time will tell. I prefer DSJ but I also wanted Russell over KP.

I wonder if DET took Kennard bc we are trading Lee to them?

We also could have D-Rose as well.

Even had me fooled but I did say we should be on our Fake Hustle in pretending we wanted him. I thought we should execute the fake but didn't take them as already executing it... :drink::drink:

Possibly but for them to draft DSJ right after even with Monk/Mitchell on board suggest some kind of gamesmanship was being ran.

Surprised Bulls didn't get him. Bilas called him the best shooter in the draft, Bulls needed shooting and they already have Mirotic and needed a replacement for Butler. He's a damn good athlete as well with that 42" vertical .

Kings to get Jackson, so he did last all the way to 15...WOW! The Kings got Fox/Jackson/another pick, they did exceptional tonight extremely well

Why?

Nobody had Mitchell going above 10 (other than some rumors about the Knicks drafting him) and there's a reason Monk fell to 11

If teams are smart they list the best players available regardless of position and take whoever is there when they draft. Mavs took the best player on the board.

I'm surprised Monk fell that far (11? seriously?) but it just goes to show that a lot of coaches aren't a fan of his game even if he's athletic and a good shooter

Probably because of Wade/Lavine, they did need a stretch big...Mirotic is UFA they might let him go

Now that wolves got Butler, wouldn't be surprised to see them land Rose now
Yeah I see that happening, if I'm Thibs I'm not giving him anything close to 100M though. Thibs likes Melo as well, maybe Thibs would do a deal for him, might get a Pekovic who we would waive, other spare parts and a 1st out of it. Thibs seems to be all in this year, now if Melo agrees.
