Knicks come up short in Miami as late overturn sinks comeback attempt

MIAMI – In a nail-biting finish that swung on one final replay review, the Knicks dropped a tough one on the road, falling 115-113 to the Heat after an overturned call with 13.2 seconds remaining wiped two points off the board. New York kept possession, but Karl-Anthony Towns’ 12-foot jumper rimmed out, and Davion Mitchell snagged the rebound to seal the win for Miami.

It was the kind of game that tilts back and forth for 48 minutes. Multiple lead changes, no real separation, and neither team ever ahead by more than six until deep into the fourth. With the Knicks up 99-98 and 6:28 to go, it felt like the closing stretch would come down to a single mistake or single miracle. Then the Heat delivered a 10-0 run that looked like the knockout punch.

But this Knicks group rarely folds. Over the next three minutes they clawed back, forcing stops, pushing the pace, and cutting the deficit to a single point with 22 seconds left. The comeback felt real. The finish did not. Between the overturned bucket, the missed final look, and Miami securing the loose ball, the Knicks walked off still searching for their first road win of the season.

Miles McBride dropped 25 points attacking with confidence all night. Mikal Bridges added 23, while Towns posted another double-double with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Off the bench, Josh Hart and Jordan Clarkson each put up 14, keeping the Knicks afloat whenever the starters sat.

Miami countered with balance. Norman Powell led the Heat with 19 points, Davion Mitchell added 18 including several clutch sequences, and rookie big man Kel’el Ware continued his strong start with 16 points and 14 rebounds.

The Knicks didn’t help themselves with their shooting. They went just 18-of-24 from the free throw line at 75 percent, leaving valuable points behind. The three-ball wasn’t much kinder. Clarkson and Hart combined to go 0-for-6 from deep, and Landry Shamet struggled at 1-for-7. In a two-point loss, those misses sting a little more.

Still, it was the kind of game that could have gone either way. A possession here, a whistle there, and the ending is different. Instead, the Knicks leave Miami with another frustrating road loss and a 113-115 scoreline they’ll replay for a while.
