Shamet shines as Knicks close regular season with 113-105 win over Nets

The New York Knicks wrapped up their regular season with a 113-105 win over the Brooklyn Nets, closing the book on their best campaign since the 2012-13 season. With the victory, the Knicks not only reached 50+ wins for a second straight year but did so for the first time since 1994-95, marking a rare stretch of sustained success in the Big Apple.

Landry Shamet stole the spotlight in this one, pouring in a season-high 29 points on 7-of-13 shooting from beyond the arc. The game had a ceremonial twist too: Mikal Bridges started, took a foul six seconds into the game, and was promptly subbed out for Shamet. The move wasn’t about strategy—it was about legacy. With that quick cameo, Bridges officially started all 82 games this season, the first Knick to do so since Robin Lopez in 2015-16.

The Knicks rolled out a lineup without their usual starters, giving key contributors a rest ahead of the playoffs. But the second unit was more than ready to step up. Cameron Payne dropped 21 points and dished 7 assists, Precious Achiuwa added 18 points and 9 rebounds, and Miles McBride finished with 17 points, 8 assists, and 3 steals in a strong all-around performance.

Brooklyn had their moments, led by Trenton Watford and Tyrese Martin, who each tallied 20 points and 7 boards. Jalen Wilson added 18.

The turning point came late in the third quarter. After trailing 79-70 with 5:50 left in the period, the Knicks launched a blistering 17-0 run to take back a lead they hadn’t held since early in the second quarter.

New York won the efficiency battle across the board. They hit 23-of-26 free throws compared to Brooklyn’s 17-of-25 and took far better care of the ball, committing just 12 turnovers while forcing 19. That discrepancy translated into a lopsided 31-12 advantage in points off turnovers.

With the regular season wrapped up, the Knicks now turn their focus to the playoffs, where they’re set to face the 6th-seeded Detroit Pistons. While the Play-In Tournament will still unfold for other teams, the Knicks can take advantage of the break to rest and prepare for their first-round matchup.
