Julius Randle to undergo season ending surgery
New York Knicks forward Julius Randle, a three-time All-Star, will undergo season-ending surgery on his right shoulder, Adrian Wojnarowski reported. Randle sustained the injury on January 27th against the Miami Heat and has been sidelined for all games since then. He will be reevaluated in five months following the procedure.
Just a month after the injury, Randle expressed optimism, stating that he felt “better and stronger” and aiming for a comeback. However, the decision to delay surgery only postponed the inevitable, and Randle will now focus on his recovery process.
In addition to Randle’s absence, the Knicks have been without two other key players. Center Mitchell Robinson recently returned to action after missing 50 games due to an ankle injury but has shown signs of lingering discomfort, prompting him to miss several games since his return.
Forward OG Anunoby, who injured his elbow in late January, made a brief return last month before experiencing further complications with his surgically repaired elbow, forcing him to miss nine consecutive games.
With Randle sidelined, the Knicks must adapt and focus on the players available to them. Guard Josh Hart anticipated the importance of approaching each game with the mindset that injured teammates may not return soon.
Tonight, the Knicks will face the Sacramento Kings at home, with both Mitchell Robinson (ankle) and Josh Hart (wrist) listed as questionable for the matchup.
